Frequently Asked Questions
Can I make a suggestion?
Of course! Drop a suggestion in the suggestion box!
Is all this really free?
Yep, totally free! Even after the beta period when we charge for certain features, PerkyPoll will always be the best free polling site on the Internet and Perkster Bronze Memberships are always free!
How do I make a poll?
Click the make a poll button and start typing. There's popup help along the way if you need it - just click the question marks in the circles. To learn more, check out the help page for more detailed info.
Why are there different question types?
The type of question you need depends on what you want to ask and what you want to learn. And since we want to let pretty much anybody ask anybody anything, we wanted to offer plenty of different question types.
What's a cumulative question type?
Cumulative questions are cool because the answers tell you so much. Instead of just learning which choice is the favorite, cumulative questions tell you how much more they like one choice over another. That's because people are free to spread their votes around as much or as little as they want. If they really like one choice, they can put all their votes there. If they like a couple, they can spread their votes out but nothing says they have to spread them out equally.
Why do you delete existing votes when I edit my poll?
Because PerkyPoll protects the integrity of your results. If we didn't delete existing votes when a poll is edited, people could use an edited poll to prove whatever they wanted. Imagine a poll about ice cream with lots of votes. Now imagine changing that to a poll about terrorism and keeping the old votes. That's just not perky.
How do I get people to take my PerkyPoll?
Lots of ways! First off, don't hide your poll so it shows up in searches at PerkyPoll.com when people do a search or explore the site. And we always recommend you email links to your PerkyPoll to as many people as possible. You should also put your poll into a widget that adds poll power to your blog or website. Even better, with PerkyPoll widgets, you and others can collect responses from thousands of websites and share the results.
What do you mean, collaborative polling?
PerkyPoll is all about collaboration. When it comes to collecting votes, anybody can collaborate on any poll, that means they get a widget to put on their website and the results get combined. When people collaborate that way, more votes come in from a broader audience and everybody benefits. After the results are in, anybody can explore the results by using the PerkyPoll Results Explorer™. When they find something interesting, they can save their results with a comment so other people can see what they saw.
What's a widget?
A PerkyPoll widget is a holder for one or more polls and they're a great way to put your poll in front of your audience. Anybody can make a widget, load their polls then embed the widget into their website. It couldn't be easier!
How do I decide what kind of widget to make?
It depends on where you want to put your widget. PerkyPoll offers different types of widgets so polls can be put on different types of websites. Different websites have different requirements so we offer different widget types and sizes. It's all about flexibility and getting your poll out to the broadest possible audience.
What are PerkyPoints™ and how do I get a whole bunch?
We invented PerkyPoints because some Perksters like to keep score. Here's how you earn PerkyPoints:
| When you: | We give you: |
| Complete your profile | 10 PerkyPoints |
| Bring in 10 votes | 1 PerkyPoint |
| Bring in 100 votes | 1 PerkyPoint |
| Bring in 500 votes | 1 PerkyPoint |
| Bring in 1,000 votes | 1 PerkyPoint |
| Bring in 5,000 votes | 3 PerkyPoints |
Two ways to bring in votes: Make polls and put widgets on web pages. If you do both, you earn more points. And if you get other people to collaborate on polls you make, you earn even more PerkyPoints because they help you increase the total vote count. In addition to posting PerkyPoint scores for all to see, we'll make sure top point winners get special treats.
Why do I have to sign in to take certain PerkyPolls but not others?
It's up to the person who made the poll but in general, when sign in is required, the results are more meaningful. When a person takes their poll anonymously, they have no way of knowing how old that person is, their gender, etc. When somebody is logged on when they take the poll, their profile information is used so results can be filtered by age, gender, etc. But we have to say PerkyPoll takes privacy very seriously and our software prevents poll answers from being traceable to an individual user.
What's the difference between Collaboration and being a CopyCat?
When you collaborate on a PerkyPoll, that means you're helping somebody else collect more answers and you share answers with the owner and all the other collaborators. When you become a CopyCat on a poll, you get an editable copy of the poll but any answers you collect are separate from the original. Basically, if you want to share answers, collaborate, if you want to go do your own thing, be a CopyCat.
Can anybody be a collaborator or a copycat?
Sure, anybody who has signed up with PerkyPoll.
What if I don't want people to see my poll?
That's easy, edit your poll and click the box beside "Hide my poll". It won't show up on PerkyPoll.com and you'll be the only one who knows the access URL. Of course, you can still give the link to people so they can vote. You can also still put the poll in a widget.
